More Retailers Set up Shop in Jefferson County

Belmar, Lakewood’s new downtown development, features shopping, dining, entertainment and housing.
Jefferson County’s robust economy, coupled with an influx of new residents, means good times for retailers and shoppers.
Both all-retail and mixed-use developments are doing well across the county, as are revitalized downtowns.
Developments with a residential component are doing particularly well, in part because people want to consolidate their lifestyle, says Stephanie Jackson, director of marketing for Belmar, a retail/restaurant/residential complex in Lakewood. “The feedback we’re getting from our residents is that they want a downtown feel, a community feel.”
Established communities also are seeing brisk activity.
Arvada is reaping the benefits of a re-energized downtown, says Hazel Hartbarger, director of the Arvada Economic Development Association.
“We have two new buildings, one of which is housing retail shops and some state judicial system offices, while the other is being targeted more toward restaurants,” Hartbarger says. “What we’re seeing is our newer retail businesses having great success, while our older businesses are continuing to do well. People really are dedicated to our Olde Town area, and we’re really pleased at how everything’s going.”
Other retail destinations include historic downtown Golden, Lakewood’s Colorado Mills mall, the south county’s Southwest Plaza Mall, and Westminster’s Shops at Walnut Creek, Westminster Mall and Westminster Promenade.
