Workforce Center Aids Employers, Employees
Published Apr 16, 2007

The Jefferson County Workforce Center has a new name and new address, but its mission to support economic vitality by focusing on hiring, retention, training and staffing issues remains unchanged.

Located in the Laramie Building on the Jeffco governmental campus in Golden, the center is physically close to other county agencies, allowing residents to avail themselves of various services with one visit.

Director Mary Russell says the Jefferson County Workforce Center is constantly adapting to evolving needs. Some industries are facing a wave of retirements among their top workers; others are challenged to find workers with the appropriate skills and training.

Moreover, ever-changing technologies affect most facets of the workplace. And businesses must find ways to compete in the global economy.

“In order for us to remain competitive, our workers have to have a high level of skills,” Russell says. “Basically, it’s a search for talent, and that is going to become more strenuous as we go along.”

Previously known as the Tri-County Workforce Center, the facility continues to serve employers and workers in Clear Creek, Gilpin and Jefferson counties. Among its many programs are job fairs, pre-screening of job applicants and work-skills training.

The center works with people of all ages. “Our job is to help them transition from one job to the next job or one career to the next career,” Russell says.
